The Inspector General of Police, Francis Munu, on Monday 8th May 2017 engaged the executive of the National Union of Drivers Union and the park controllers over the alleged connivance of drivers with thieves to rob passengers and passersby at night.
Speaking at a well attended meeting at the Central Police headquarter, I. G. Munu said the police have gathered that drivers aid, abet and connive with thieves at night by providing them with vehicle to carry out their operations.
Such ugly development he said is very disturbing.He stated that the police have put mechanism in place to address the situation but added that they need cooperation and collaboration to eliminate this bad habit that is causing security threat to the nation.
IG Munu said the measures will not be limited to road blocks and searching of vehicle at night. He also spoke about use of unregistered vehicles during weddings which he said is illegal and a crime.
In her statement, A. I. G Memunatu Conteh-Jalloh advised the drivers to use the road efficiently and be responsible citizens.
National Drivers Union President, Alpha Amadu Bah, thanked the leadership of the police for the recognition. He assured them of his executive’s cooperation.
Speaking to the Deputy Head of Media in the Sierra Leone Police, Michael Kelly Dumbuya, he said the engagement came at the right time. He promised that the SLP will engage other stakeholders.
